Take PSAT 8/9

Overview

The PSAT 8/9 is designed for freshmen and is completely low-stakes. Think of it as a friendly introduction to standardized testing!

What Is the PSAT 8/9?

• Practice test for 8th and 9th graders
• Same format as SAT but slightly easier content
• Does NOT count for National Merit (that's junior year)
• Scores don't go to colleges

Why Take It?

• Familiarize yourself with the test format
• Get baseline scores to track improvement
• Identify strengths and weaknesses
• Practice for future standardized tests

Test Details

• Length: 2 hours 14 minutes
• Format: Digital (on school computers)
• Sections: Reading/Writing (64 min) and Math (70 min)
• Score Range: 240-1440

When and Where

• Your school chooses the date (usually fall or spring)
• Administered at your school during the school day
• Check with your counselor for your school's date

How to Prepare

• No intensive prep needed!
• Get a good night's sleep
• Eat breakfast
• Bring pencils and approved calculator
• Review Khan Academy's free SAT prep if you want

After the Test

• Scores come 4-6 weeks later
• Review your score report for insights
• Connect your College Board account to Khan Academy for personalized practice
