Taking appropriately challenging courses shows colleges you're ready for college-level work. Let's make sure you're on the right track!

What "Rigorous" Means

Taking the most challenging courses available to you in which you can earn As or Bs. This typically includes:

• Honors courses
• AP courses (1-3 for sophomores)
• Accelerated or advanced sections

Recommended Sophomore Schedule

• English 10 or Honors English 10
• Math (Geometry, Algebra 2, or higher)
• Science (Chemistry or Biology)
• World History or AP World History
• Foreign Language (Level 2 or 3)
• Electives aligned with your interests

How to Evaluate Your Schedule

Ask yourself:

• Am I challenging myself appropriately?
• Can I handle this workload while maintaining good grades?
• Am I taking courses in my areas of strength?
• Have I avoided "easy A" courses just to boost GPA?

Important Balance

• Quality over quantity: An A in Honors beats a C in AP
• Sustainability matters: Burnout helps no one
• Interest counts: Challenging courses in areas you enjoy are easier to manage
