Overview

Many clubs hold elections in spring for the following year. Now's the time to consider running!

Is Running Right for You?

Consider Running If You:

• Have been consistently involved
• Have ideas to improve the organization
• Are ready for more responsibility
• Care about the group's mission

Think Carefully If You:

• Haven't been attending regularly
• Only want the title for applications
• Don't have time for the commitment

Preparing to Run

Before Announcing

• Attend meetings consistently
• Volunteer for extra tasks
• Build relationships with members
• Understand what the position involves

Developing Your Platform

• What would you do in the role?
• What improvements would you make?
• Why are you the right person?

Campaign Tips

Dos

• Share your vision authentically
• Talk to members one-on-one
• Be positive and enthusiastic
• Respect other candidates

Don'ts

• Don't badmouth other candidates
• Don't make promises you can't keep
• Don't expect to win without effort
• Don't take it too seriously

If You Don't Win

It's Not Failure

• The experience itself is valuable
• You can try again next year
• Ask for other roles (committee chair, etc.)
• Stay involved and committed

Alternative Leadership

If elections don't work out:

• Start your own club
• Take on informal leadership
• Lead a project or initiative
• Mentor new members
