Attend college presentations

Overview

College representatives visit high schools throughout the fall to meet prospective students. These presentations are a wonderful opportunity to learn about schools firsthand and make a personal connection.

How to Prepare

• Check your school's college counseling calendar for upcoming visits
• Sign up early - popular schools fill up quickly!
• Prepare 2-3 thoughtful questions about programs, campus culture, or what makes successful applicants stand out

During the Presentation

• Bring a notebook to capture key details
• Listen for information you won't find on their website
• After the session, introduce yourself briefly to the representative

After the Visit

• Send a short thank-you email within 24-48 hours
• Mention something specific you learned - this shows genuine interest

Why This Matters

Some colleges track "demonstrated interest" and note which students attended their presentations. Even for schools that don't, you'll gain valuable insights for your application essays!
