Step-by-Step Guide

Overview

Time to assess your standardized testing journey and make decisions for applications!

Review Your Scores

  • PSAT/NMSQT score and Selection Index
  • All SAT attempts (calculate superscore)
  • All ACT attempts (calculate superscore)

Compare to Your Targets

For each school on your list:

  • Look up the 25th-75th percentile scores
  • If your scores are within or above: you're in good shape!
  • If below: consider test-optional or August testing

Decision Points

Should You Submit Scores?

  • Submit if: At or above the school's 50th percentile
  • Consider test-optional if: Significantly below AND your application is strong otherwise

Superscoring

Most colleges take your best section scores across dates. Calculate your superscore for both SAT and ACT.

Looking Ahead

  • If satisfied: Focus summer on essays, not testing
  • If not satisfied: August 23 SAT or July 11 ACT available
  • October testing possible for EA/ED but cutting it close

Perspective

Test scores are just one piece of your application. Strong essays, activities, and grades matter too!
