Step-by-Step Guide

Overview

Your senior year schedule is part of your college application. Choosing well shows continued commitment to your education!

UC/CSU Requirements

  • At least 5 year-long courses (or equivalent)
  • Complete any remaining A-G requirements
  • Demonstrate continued rigor in areas of strength

Recommended Senior Schedule

  • English (AP Literature or AP Language if not taken)
  • Math (at least Pre-Calculus level; AP Calculus if ready)
  • Science (AP in your area of interest)
  • Social Science/History (AP Government, Econ, or History)
  • Language (4th year if possible - shows commitment)
  • 1-2 electives aligned with your interests

What to Avoid

  • All-elective schedules
  • Dropping from AP to regular in the same subject
  • Significantly fewer academic courses than junior year
  • No challenging courses at all

Document Your Choices

When applications ask about senior courses, you'll list each one. Choose courses you can confidently commit to completing.

Balance Matters

A rigorous but sustainable schedule is better than one that overwhelms you!
