Step-by-Step Guide

Overview

Colleges review your senior year courses as part of your application. Make sure your schedule reflects continued academic commitment!

What to Verify

  • ✅ Enrolled in at least 5 year-long academic courses (UC requirement)
  • ✅ Continuing challenging courses in your strengths
  • ✅ Haven't dropped from AP to regular in any subject
  • ✅ Overall rigor maintained or increased
  • ✅ Any remaining A-G requirements will be completed

Red Flags to Avoid

  • Schedule mostly electives and easy courses
  • Dropped AP courses you initially signed up for
  • Significantly fewer academics than junior year
  • No challenging courses in your intended major

Acceptable Adjustments

  • 5 APs → 3-4 APs if replacing with other rigorous courses
  • Adding electives you're passionate about (alongside academics)
  • Taking required senior courses (government, economics)

If Changes Needed

Contact your counselor immediately to adjust. Senior schedules are often finalized in August - act fast!

Remember

A sustainable schedule where you can excel is better than an overwhelming one. Find the right balance for you!
