AP digital submissions come before the exams

The deadlines

• April 30, 2027, 11:59pm ET — AP Computer Science Principles Create performance task, submitted as final
• April 30, 2027, 11:59pm ET — AP Seminar and AP Research performance tasks, submitted as final
• May 7, 2027, 11:59pm ET — AP Art and Design, all three portfolio components, submitted as final

"Submit as final" is the part that catches people

Uploading a file is not submitting it. Each component has a separate final-submission step, and work that is uploaded but not marked final is not scored. Every year students lose an entire year's course credit to this one distinction.

Check the AP Digital Portfolio and confirm each component reads as submitted and final.

Plan around the collision

These deadlines land in the same fortnight as final projects, the last weeks of class, and for many students the enrolment deposit on May 1. Work backwards:

• Two weeks before: complete draft finished, reviewed by the teacher
• One week before: revisions done, files exported in the required format
• Three days before: uploaded and marked final

Do not aim for the deadline itself. The portal slows badly on the last night.

AP Art and Design specifically

Fifteen Sustained Investigation images plus written evidence, and five Selected Works with written responses. Photograph work properly — even light, no glare, accurate colour, cropped square to the edge. Poor documentation of good work costs real points.

The exams

Exams run May 3-7 and May 10-14, 2027, with late testing May 17-21. Session 1 begins at 8am local time, Session 2 at noon.

Is it still worth trying?

Yes. Scores arrive in July and can convert into college credit, placement out of introductory courses, or both — which can save a term's tuition. And a dramatic collapse in AP performance is visible to the college that admitted you.
