Coalition App
An alternative shared college application platform with a "locker" for student work and a focus on access. Used by some schools that also accept Common App.
The Coalition Application is a shared college application platform launched in 2016 by a group of schools focused on broadening access. It includes a "locker" feature where students can store work and reflections starting in 9th grade. As of 2024, the Coalition partners with Scoir as the application interface; the legacy Coalition application is no longer in active use.
Most schools that accept the Coalition App also accept the Common App, so for the majority of students the Common App remains the simpler choice. A small number of schools use Coalition or Scoir exclusively or as a primary preference.
For parents, the practical guidance is to start with the Common App and add Coalition or Scoir only if a target school requires it. Filing the same application through two different platforms is rarely necessary and adds complexity without admissions benefit.
