Selection here buys a year of leadership training and travel rather than tuition money: 17 student and educator pairs are chosen from eligible public high schools for an all-expenses-paid week at the Aspen Ideas Festival, then spend the school year running a community project at home. Applicants must be juniors with at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA who have taken an honors, AP, or IB course, and the school itself must qualify as Title I or serve a comparably underserved population. A teacher or counselor applies alongside the student as a full teammate, so the pair has to be set before any writing begins.
