Equitable Excellence Scholarship
Offered by Equitable Foundation, administered by Scholarship America · Free to apply
The Equitable Excellence Scholarship, run for the Equitable Foundation by Scholarship America, gives up to 100 renewable awards of $5,000 a year to high school seniors who have made a difference in their communities and have financial need. Renewed for up to three more years, each award is worth up to $20,000 toward a bachelor's degree, and every recipient also directs a $500 gift card to an educator of their choice. Applicants must be current seniors at a public high school in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico, carry at least a 2.5 GPA, and plan to enroll full time at an accredited two-year or four-year US college for the whole coming academic year; private and home-schooled students are not eligible. The application takes a complete transcript, the first two pages of the family's most recent federal tax return, and a personal statement about paying it forward through a college degree. The 2027 cycle closes December 22, 2026 at 3 p.m. Central. Renewing scholars attend a virtual leadership meet-and-greet and two professional development workshops each college year; they do not reapply.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- More rivalsOpen nationwide, so the field is large
- Fewer rivalsAn essay is required, which filters out casual applicants

- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
- Fewer rivalsRequires at least a 2.5 GPA
- More rivalsA large award draws far more applicants
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
