Roughly 10,000 students a year are named HSF Scholars and receive $500 to $5,000 based on relative financial need, plus mentoring, career services, and leadership programming that continues past the award itself. Review is holistic: high school seniors need a 3.0 GPA, college and graduate applicants 2.5, along with plans to enroll full time at an accredited public or nonprofit four-year school. Applicants must be of Hispanic heritage and must file the FAFSA, or a state aid application if they are DACA recipients. The application opens January 1 and closes February 15; finalists are picked in March and may be asked for a recommendation and financial aid documents, and the Scholar class is confirmed in June. Awards cover one year, so scholars reapply each cycle.
