Kansas State Scholarship
Offered by Kansas Board of Regents · Free to apply
The Kansas State Scholarship rewards the top academic students in each Kansas graduating class. Seniors who complete the Kansas Scholars Curriculum and take the ACT by December of senior year are reported by their high school counselor, and the Board of Regents designates about the top half of roughly 5,000 completers, around 2,500 students, as Kansas State Scholars using an index that combines the ACT composite and seventh-semester GPA. The 2025 scholars averaged a 29 ACT and a 3.93 GPA. Designated scholars can then receive up to $1,000 a year ($500 a semester) based on financial need and other scholarships, renewable for four years (five in designated five-year programs) at a Kansas college. To receive money, designees file the FAFSA and the State of Kansas Student Aid Application each year by July 1. Scholars who show no need one year should still apply, because eligibility is recalculated each year.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Kansas residents
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
