Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP)

Virginia high school graduates with financial need who enroll full time at a Virginia public college can receive VGAP, which pays at least tuition for the neediest students and at most tuition, required fees, and a book allowance. Amounts are set campus by campus. Applicants need a 2.5 high school GPA and dependent student status, and VGAP cannot be held together with a Virginia Commonwealth Award. Nothing extra is filed: the FAFSA, or the VASA application for students who cannot file the FAFSA, is the whole application. Each college publishes its own aid filing date, commonly between January and March, and the money is limited, so file as soon as the FAFSA opens on October 1. Awards renew for up to three more years with a 2.0 college GPA and grade-level advancement each year.
