AP Psychology was redesigned for the 2025 exam, and older calculators still assume the retired 100-question format. The current exam is 75 multiple-choice questions carrying 66.7% of the score, the heaviest MCQ weighting of any subject on this calculator, plus two free-response questions carrying 16.65% each: the Article Analysis Question (AAQ), 7 points on a single peer-reviewed study, and the Evidence-Based Question (EBQ), 7 points synthesizing three provided sources.
The arithmetic: each multiple-choice answer is worth about 0.89% of your score, and each of the 14 FRQ points about 2.4%. One AAQ point equals nearly three multiple-choice answers, so the written third of the exam punches far above its length.
Our estimated cutoffs: a 5 at roughly 75% of the composite, a 4 near 64%, a 3 near 52%. Because multiple choice is two thirds of the exam, your MCQ performance nearly determines your band: 60 of 75 with middling FRQs of 4 and 4 sits at the 5 border, while 55 of 75 needs strong 6s on both FRQs to get there.
In 2026, 15% of students earned a 5, 35% a 4 and 24% a 3, a 74% pass rate. The redesigned exam has a short equating history, so our borderline band matters more here than on long-stable exams.
Both FRQs are graded on research literacy. The AAQ walks one study: identify the method, the variables, a statistical claim, an ethics consideration, and whether the finding generalizes. The EBQ asks for a claim supported by evidence from three provided abstracts, cited specifically. Neither rewards the trait-listing essay style the old exam trained.
The reliable preparation is reading real study summaries and practicing the same six moves on each: method, variables, operationalization, statistics, ethics, generalizability. Students fluent in those moves report the FRQs feel formulaic, which on a 7-point rubric is exactly what you want.

Only if you report them. AP scores are self-reported on applications and sent officially only to the college you designate. A strong score supports your application; a weak one can simply be left off. Either way, the course itself and the grade you earned in it appear on your transcript and feed your weighted GPA.
