Step-by-Step Guide

Overview

Now that your teachers have agreed to write recommendations, give them everything they need to write strong letters!

What to Provide

Essential Materials

  • Brag sheet: Comprehensive info about activities, achievements, goals
  • Resume: 1-page summary
  • College list: Schools with deadlines
  • Intended major/career goals: Helps them tailor the letter

Class-Specific Information

  • What you enjoyed in their class
  • Specific projects you're proud of
  • Growth you experienced

How to Deliver

In person is best! Schedule a brief meeting to:

  • Express gratitude
  • Hand over materials
  • Ask if they have questions
  • Offer to provide anything else helpful

Digital Submission Note

Most schools use Common App or Coalition App, where teachers upload letters directly. You'll "invite" recommenders through the platform in August.

Follow-Up

Send a thank-you note after providing materials, and let them know you're available for questions.

Timeline Reminder

Letters are due in fall (November for EA/ED, January for RD). Giving materials now ensures teachers have plenty of time!
