Dolphin Scholarship
Offered by Dolphin Scholarship Foundation · Free to apply
The Dolphin Scholarship Foundation supports the children and spouses of the U.S. Navy Submarine Force. Children are eligible if the parent is a current or former submariner who served at least six years on active duty in submarines, or eight years on active duty in submarine support activities such as submarine groups, squadrons, tenders, and training or maintenance facilities. Students must be unmarried, under 24 at the March 15 deadline, and a high school senior or current student working full time toward a first associate's or bachelor's degree or a vocational certificate. Service academy students are not eligible. Dolphin Scholars receive $3,000 to $4,500 a year and can renew without competing again, up to eight semesters, and the foundation currently supports 113 students. The same application covers several submarine-specific memorial awards. New applications open October 1, eligibility screening must be finished by February 15, and the final application is due March 15.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- More rivalsOpen nationwide, so the field is large
- Fewer rivalsAn official transcript is required
- Fewer rivalsRequires a military or national-service connection
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
