The National Honor Society Scholarship is administered by NASSP, the organization behind NHS itself, and exists to reward members who genuinely live the values they were inducted under. The award has deep roots: it was first given in 1946, and more than $30 million has gone to outstanding NHS seniors in the decades since. Its administrator, historically known as NASSP, now operates as the National Principals Association. Active NHS members in their senior year compete for 600 awards from their own society: most winners receive $3,200, finalists get $5,625, and one national winner receives $25,000. Judging follows the four NHS pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, so the essay and activity record cover work a member has already been doing. Membership in good standing plus an NHS student account verified by the chapter adviser are both required, and there is no cap on how many students a chapter may put forward.
