Does Solyo work if my school uses Infinite Campus, Schoology, or another platform?

One of the most common questions parents ask before signing up is whether Solyo works with their specific school platform. The answer is almost always yes, and the reason is simple: Solyo does not connect to your school's system directly. It reads the emails your school sends you.

If your school emails you grade updates, assignment notifications, or event announcements, Solyo can process those emails and extract the data.

How this works in practice

When you connect your Gmail to Solyo, the system identifies emails from school platforms using sender patterns, subject line formats, and content structure. For example, a PowerSchool notification typically includes the student name, course name, assignment title, and grade in a consistent format. A Canvas notification follows a different format but contains similar data.

Solyo's AI parser recognizes these patterns across platforms and extracts the relevant information: which child, which class, which assignment, what grade. This data feeds into your GPA calculator and grade dashboard automatically.

Multiple children, multiple schools, one dashboard

This is where Solyo's email approach really shines. If you have one child at a school using PowerSchool and another at a school using Infinite Campus, both sets of grade notifications arrive in the same Gmail inbox. Solyo processes them all and organizes the data by child, giving you a single unified view of your entire family's academic progress.

No other grade-tracking tool can do this because they all require connecting to a specific school's platform. If your children are at different schools using different systems, you would need separate apps or logins for each one.

What if my school does not send many email notifications?

Some schools or individual teachers are better at sending email updates than others. If your school sends minimal email notifications, Solyo will have less data to work with. Here are a few things you can do.

1. Check your notification settings. Many parents do not realize they need to enable grade notifications in their school's parent portal. Look for notification or alert settings in PowerSchool, Canvas, or whatever system your school uses.
2. Talk to your school. Schools can adjust their notification frequency. Some districts send automatic alerts for every grade change, while others only send weekly summaries.
3. Use the upload feature. You can also upload documents like report cards or transcripts to supplement email data.

Current requirement: Gmail

Solyo currently requires a Gmail account to process school emails. This is because Solyo uses Google's secure OAuth system for email access. Support for Outlook and other email providers is on the roadmap. If your school emails go to a non-Gmail address, you can set up email forwarding to a Gmail account as a workaround.
