Alabama residents who enroll at one of the state's eligible independent, nonprofit colleges can draw up to $3,000 a year, paid as $1,500 a semester, with half-time students receiving up to $750 a semester. Financial need is not part of the test, so any Alabama family at a participating private campus can qualify, but the grant cannot be used at public universities and cannot fund a degree in theology or divinity. The application is a short state form the student picks up from the college's financial aid office and returns there with two proofs of Alabama residency; the college then certifies its roster to the Commission.
