Arizona covers tuition and fees for students training to teach, in exchange for a year of teaching in an Arizona public school for each year of scholarship received. State law sets the terms: an annual scholarship up to the actual cost of tuition and fees, for a maximum of eight semesters for undergraduate university students and four semesters for community college students, paid after all other gift aid is applied. It also covers the actual cost of obtaining a teaching certificate, including the exam. Two protections are written into the statute and worth knowing: if the scholarship does not cover the remaining tuition and fees after other aid, the institution may not bill the student the difference. If a student fails to complete an academic year in good standing, the scholarship for that year must be repaid to the Arizona Board of Regents.

How hard is the Arizona Teachers Academy to win?

This is not a competition, but the funding is rationed: eligible students are routinely turned away once the money runs out, so filing date decides the outcome.

What drives the odds here

Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Arizona residents
  • Fewer rivalsRestricted to specific intended majors

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
