Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship

Offered by Arkansas Division of Higher Education · Free to apply

The Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship is a lottery-funded grant of up to $3,000 for Arkansas residents enrolling in short workforce training, certificate or associate programs in five high-demand areas: advanced manufacturing, construction trades, health care, information technology, and logistics, distribution and transportation. It pays up to $1,500 for professional skills programs of 80 to 179 clock hours and up to $3,000 for programs of 180 or more clock hours or 6 or more credit hours, capped at the school's standard tuition and fees. Applicants must be high school graduates (or have an equivalency), have lived in Arkansas for at least six months, and be accepted into an eligible program on the state's approved list. Students cannot hold the Academic Challenge Scholarship at the same time. The award is not renewable, but students who finish a program can reapply for another eligible program. Apply in the SAMS portal at least 30 days before the program starts. It suits a senior headed for a fast technical credential.

What drives the odds here

Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Arkansas residents
  • Fewer rivalsRestricted to specific intended majors
  • Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only

How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
