Georgia HOPE Career Grant
Offered by Georgia Student Finance Commission · Free to apply
The HOPE Career Grant is a top-up paid on top of the HOPE Grant or Zell Miller Grant for students in technical programs tied to Georgia's hardest-to-fill jobs. It was formerly called the Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant. A student who is already eligible for, and receiving, HOPE or Zell Miller Grant money and enrolls in an approved program of study automatically qualifies for an extra fixed amount each term. For most approved programs that is $125 for 1 to 2 hours, $250 for 3 to 8 hours and $500 for 9 or more hours a term. Truck driving programs pay up to $1,100 per program, and Basic Law Enforcement pays up to $3,750. The application is the same FAFSA or Georgia Student Finance Application used for the HOPE Grant, filed before the term ends. Approved programs include fields such as welding, healthcare technology, diesel and industrial maintenance; families should check the program list with the technical college.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Georgia residents
- Fewer rivalsRestricted to specific intended majors
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
