The third tier of Bright Futures is the one almost nobody talks about, and it is the only one built for career and technical students. Gold Seal Vocational pays a fixed amount per credit or clock hour toward a career certificate, applied technology diploma or technical associate degree, and Gold Seal CAPE does the same for students who earned college credit through CAPE industry certifications. Unlike the academic tiers it cannot be used toward a bachelor's degree directly, though CAPE scholars who finish a technical associate degree can extend it into a workforce bachelor's programme. The eligibility profile is completely different from the academic tiers: a modest core GPA, strong grades specifically in career and technical courses, and the service or work hours requirement, with the test bar reachable through the PERT rather than only the SAT or ACT. For a Florida CTE student this is money written into state law that their own school counselor frequently does not mention.

How hard is the Bright Futures Gold Seal Vocational and Gold Seal CAPE Scholars to win?

This is not a competition. Aid is allocated by a published formula, so meeting the criteria and filing on time is what determines whether the money arrives.

What drives the odds here

Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Florida residents
  • Fewer rivalsAn official transcript is required
  • Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
  • Fewer rivalsRequires at least a 3 GPA

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.

Who can apply for the Bright Futures Gold Seal Vocational and Gold Seal CAPE Scholars?

These are the eligibility rules Solyo verified against the official award page, translated into plain English. Your student must meet each one.

  • Must be a resident of Florida
  • Open to high school seniors
  • GPA of 3 or higher (unweighted)
  • Open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card)
Confirm these before applying
  • Gold Seal Vocational requires a standard Florida diploma, a 3.0 weighted GPA in non-elective courses, at least three full career and technical education credits with a 3.5 unweighted GPA in them, and minimum section scores on the ACT, SAT or PERT. The PERT route makes this the only Bright Futures tier reachable without a college admissions test.
  • The service requirement: 30 volunteer hours (75 for students who entered ninth grade in 2024-25 or later), or 100 paid work hours, or a 100-hour combination. File the Florida Financial Aid Application by August 31 after graduation.
  • Usable only toward career certificates, applied technology diplomas and technical associate degrees at eligible Florida institutions, not an AA or a bachelor's. Gold Seal CAPE scholars who complete a qualifying technical associate degree can extend up to 60 additional hours into a workforce bachelor's.
Good to know
  • Gold Seal CAPE is the alternate route: five or more postsecondary credit hours earned through CAPE industry certifications plus the service hours, with no test-score or CTE-GPA requirement.
