Nevada high school graduates who finish the state core curriculum and post either a 3.25 GPA or a qualifying test score (SAT 1070, ACT 21) can draw up to $10,000 in lifetime funding at in-state colleges. Payment is per enrolled credit: about $80 at universities, $60 at Nevada State, and $40 at community colleges. Traditional graduates file nothing at all, because districts and private schools report eligible names to the State Treasurer each July and the office mails an eligibility notice in July or August after graduation. There is no application deadline for those students, though recipients must complete an online Acknowledgement of Award before money is released, and the award has to be used within six years of graduation. Homeschooled students and Nevada residents who attended high school out of state do have to apply.

How hard is the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship to win?

This is not a competition. Aid is allocated by a published formula, so meeting the criteria and filing on time is what determines whether the money arrives.

What drives the odds here

Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Nevada residents
  • Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
  • Fewer rivalsRequires at least a 3.25 GPA
  • More rivalsA five-figure award attracts a bigger field

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
