Indiana Tuition and Fee Exemption for Children and Spouses of Public Safety Officers

Offered by Indiana Commission for Higher Education · Free to apply

Indiana waives up to 100 percent of tuition and regularly assessed fees, for up to 124 semester credit hours, at its public colleges and universities for the children and spouses of public safety officers killed in the line of duty. It also covers families of certain officers who suffered a catastrophic line-of-duty injury, including state police officers left permanently and totally disabled. Covered officers include paid and volunteer firefighters, police and reserve officers, paramedics, EMTs and advanced EMTs, Department of Correction hazardous duty employees and community corrections officers, who were Indiana residents employed by the state or a local government. Children must apply before age 33 (no more than 32 when first applying) and, if adopted, have been adopted before 18. The student files the FAFSA, submits the exemption application and documents on ScholarTrack, and maintains satisfactory academic progress, filing the FAFSA again each year. The rate covered is the undergraduate resident rate at the school attended.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Indiana residents
  • Fewer rivalsRequires a specific life circumstance
  • Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
