Kansas pays remaining tuition, fees, and books for two-year associate degrees and technical certificates in designated high-need fields: IT and security, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and building trades, and early childhood education. Community colleges, technical colleges, Washburn Institute of Technology, and some private institutions take part, and each college may add local fields. Two things are required: the FAFSA and a separate state application on the Kansas Board of Regents student portal, submitted for each term you want covered. Applications close July 1 for summer, October 1 for fall, and March 1 for spring, but awards go out in the order received and the portal shuts early once a term's funding runs out. Graduates then owe Kansas two consecutive years of living and working in state, or the award converts to a debt with interest.
