Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG)

Offered by Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) · Free to apply

The Kentucky Tuition Grant is a need-based state grant for Kentucky residents who attend an eligible private college in Kentucky. The maximum award for 2026-27 is $3,300. Students qualify by filing the FAFSA, showing financial need as determined by the college, and enrolling full time in an associate or bachelor's degree program at a participating school, such as Centre, Transylvania, Bellarmine, Berea, Asbury, Georgetown, Thomas More, the University of the Cumberlands, the University of Pikeville or about a dozen others. There is no separate application. KHEAA awards the money first come, first served by FAFSA completion date, so filing soon after the FAFSA opens on October 1 matters: late filers can miss out even if they qualify. Eligibility lasts for the equivalent of four full-time terms in a two-year program or eight terms in a four-year program. Other grants and scholarships can reduce or eliminate need and so lower the award.

What drives the odds here

Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Kentucky residents
  • Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
