South Carolina residents who enroll full time at an in-state college can receive $5,000 a year toward the cost of attendance, and students in approved math and science programs may add a $2,500 LIFE Enhancement from the second year on. Four-year entrants need two of three markers: a 3.0 GPA on the state Uniform Grading Scale, an 1100 SAT or 22 ACT, or a top-30 percent class rank; at two-year colleges the 3.0 GPA alone qualifies. Nothing is submitted by the student, because the college reads the transcript and scores and awards it automatically, so the June 30 date on the state calendar is an internal cycle marker rather than something to file by. Renewal takes a 3.0 LIFE GPA and an average of 30 credit hours a year, for up to eight semesters.
