Michigan Police Officer's and Fire Fighter's Survivor Tuition Grant

Offered by MI Student Aid, Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential · Free to apply

This Michigan program waives tuition at a Michigan community college or public university for the natural or adopted children and surviving spouses of Michigan police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. A child must have been under 21 when the parent died and must first apply before turning 26. Students file the FAFSA each year, complete a one-time Survivor Tuition Grant application in the MiSSG Student Portal with a birth certificate and the death certificate, and enroll at least half time. The financial aid office certifies the waiver is needed for tuition after other aid. Eligibility lasts until a bachelor's degree or about nine semesters. The 2026-27 application deadline is June 30, 2027.
