Mississippi FAITH Scholarship
Offered by Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid · Free to apply
The State Representative Bill Kinkade Fostering Access and Inspiring True Hope (FAITH) Scholarship, created in 2022, pays up to the full cost of attendance minus other grant aid for current and former foster youth at Mississippi colleges. Students qualify if they were in the custody of Mississippi Child Protection Services at any time since age 13, lived in a qualifying residential children's home since 13, or were adopted from either since 13. They must be Mississippi residents for one year, younger than 25 by October 1 of the aid year, and enroll at least half time at an approved Mississippi institution. Apply by filing the FAFSA and the Mississippi Aid Application (MAAPP, open October 1 to September 15) and applying for a Chafee ETV through CPS. It renews for up to five years.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Mississippi residents
- Fewer rivalsRequires a specific life circumstance
- More rivalsA large award draws far more applicants
How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
