Missouri Wartime Veteran's Survivors Grant

Offered by Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development · Free to apply

This Missouri grant helps children and spouses of Missouri post-9/11 service members who died or were injured in combat, who became at least 80% disabled from combat injuries, or who were combat veterans with a DD-214 showing combat pay, hazardous duty or hostile fire pay. Each semester it pays tuition (capped at University of Missouri-Columbia), up to $2,000 for room and board, and up to $500 for books at a participating public Missouri college. Children must be under 25 and enroll at least half time. Only 25 students can receive it at once, with renewals first and new applicants ranked by complete application date, so applying early matters. Applications go through the State Financial Aid Portal and there is no deadline for initial applicants.

What drives the odds here

Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.

  • Fewer rivalsOpen only to Missouri residents
  • Fewer rivalsRequires a military or national-service connection

How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
