New Mexico Student Incentive Grant
Offered by New Mexico Higher Education Department · Free to apply
The New Mexico Student Incentive Grant gives $200 to $2,500 a year to New Mexico residents with substantial financial need attending a New Mexico public college, university or tribal college at least half time. The college determines need and awards the grant in its financial aid package, so there is no state application: students file the FAFSA and contact the financial aid office for its timeline. It can be renewed each year until a bachelor's degree. Because the college decides awards from a limited allocation, students who file the FAFSA early and complete any verification promptly have the best chance of receiving it.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to New Mexico residents
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
