New York Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

Every income-eligible New York resident attending an approved in-state college receives a TAP award, sized by New York State net taxable income and worth up to $5,665 a year under the current rate table. It is an entitlement rather than a competition, so there is no essay and no race for a limited pot. Income ceilings are $125,000 for dependent students, $60,000 for married independent students, and $30,000 for single independent students, and full-time enrollment produces the largest award. Applications open in early October with the FAFSA and close June 30 at the end of the award year, but the FAFSA by itself does not apply you: the separate NYS TAP application linked from the FAFSA confirmation page has to be submitted too.
