Ohio Governor's Merit Scholarship

Seniors who finish in the top 5% of their class at any Ohio public or chartered nonpublic high school receive $5,000 a year for up to four years, $20,000 in all, provided they enroll at an Ohio college or university. Most students never apply: the high school reports class rank and the state sends an offer by email or mail, typically by November 1 of senior year. Homeschooled students and those at dropout-recovery schools qualify a different way, by submitting ACT or SAT scores through the state merit scholarship portal, which closes October 1. Every designee then has to accept in that portal by May 15 or the award is rescinded. Holding it in college takes a 3.0 cumulative GPA and at least 20 credit hours each year.
