Ohio Work Ready Grant
Offered by Ohio Department of Higher Education · Free to apply
The Ohio Work Ready Grant helps Ohio residents pay for career-focused programs at public community colleges, public university branch campuses and Ohio Technical Centers. In technician programs leading to careers in advanced manufacturing or engineering technology, full-time degree students can receive up to $6,000 a year and short-term certificate students up to $3,000 per program, and these students do not need to show financial need. In other qualifying programs, the maximum is $3,000 a year full time and $1,500 per short-term credential, and students need a Pell-eligible Student Aid Index. Part-time students receive smaller amounts on a set scale. The grant counts toward the full cost of attendance, so it can help with books, equipment, housing and transportation as well as tuition, for up to six terms. There is no separate application: students file the FAFSA and tell the college's financial aid office they want to be considered, since each college decides which of its programs qualify.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Ohio residents
- Fewer rivalsRestricted to specific intended majors
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
