Oregon Deceased or Disabled Public Safety Officer Grant
Offered by Oregon Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC) · Free to apply
The Oregon Deceased or Disabled Public Safety Officer Grant pays college tuition and standard fees for the children of Oregon public safety officers who died or became permanently and totally disabled, as defined in state law; the law covers death or disability suffered on or off duty. Natural, adopted and stepchildren qualify. Applicants must be under 25 when they apply, have lived in Oregon for at least 12 months, and attend one of more than 40 participating two-year or four-year public or private nonprofit colleges in Oregon. The grant covers actual tuition and standard fees after state and federal grants, up to $13,000 per academic year, for the equivalent of four academic years or until a bachelor's degree is earned, with satisfactory academic progress required. To apply, the family completes OSAC's application and certification form, which the officer's supervisor or human resources department signs to certify eligibility, and also files the FAFSA. Awards continue until available funds are used up, so apply early.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Oregon residents
- Fewer rivalsRequires a specific life circumstance
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
- More rivalsA five-figure award attracts a bigger field
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
