Overview

Now that you're admitted, revisiting campus is different from pre-application visits. Admitted student weekends (late April/May) are hosted by schools and designed for students to experience campus community. These events help you make a final decision and build connections with future classmates. This task covers what to look for during revisits and how to make the most of them.

Finding Admitted Student Events

How Schools Announce Events:

• Email sent to admitted students (check your email from admissions)
• Posted on admitted student portal under "Events"
• Posted on school's website under "Visit" or "Admitted Students"

Typical Event Format:

• Full-day event (8 AM - 5 PM)
• Overnight stay on campus optional (in dorms)
• Saturday or Sunday (sometimes Friday evening through Sunday)
• Includes: campus tours, class visits, student panels, lunch, activities

Registration:

• Most events fill up quickly (popular schools)
• Register ASAP after event announced
• Some limit attendance (cap at 500-1000 students)
• Early registrants get priority

What to Look For During Admitted Student Visits

The "Does This Feel Right?" Test

During the visit, assess:

1. Campus Culture:

   • Walk around campus at different times (morning, afternoon, evening)
   • Observe: How do students interact? Do they seem happy? Stressed? Friendly?
   • Do you see yourself fitting in?
   • Is the vibe competitive or collaborative?

2. Diversity & Inclusion:

4. Housing & Facilities:

   • Check out dorms (walk through, don't just see pictures)
   • Is housing quality acceptable?
   • Visit dining hall: Quality of food?
   • Fitness center, library, student spaces: What are they like?

5. Location & Vibe:

   • Walk off-campus into town (if applicable)
   • What's there? Restaurants, shops, entertainment?
   • Do you like the area?
   • Can you see yourself spending 4 years there?

6. Student Life:

   • What activities/clubs are available?
   • Attend a student panel: Ask them real questions
   • Do they seem genuinely happy or just performing?
   • What do students do on weekends?

Questions to Ask Current Students

Avoid Generic Questions ("What's your favorite thing?")

Ask Real Questions:

1. "What surprised you most about [School] that you didn't expect?"
2. "What's something you wish you'd known before coming here?"
3. "How challenging is the workload? Do you feel overwhelmed?"
4. "What's the biggest challenge you've faced at [School]?"
5. "Are you glad you chose this school? Would you choose differently?"

Pay Attention To:

• Are students enthusiastic or do they seem to be performing?
• Do they answer honestly or give the "party line"?
• Honest answers often come when they're not being watched by admissions staff

The Overnight Campus Experience (If Offered)

Should You Stay Overnight?

• Yes, if possible
• Spending night on campus gives real feel
• You experience dorm life, see what students do evenings/nights

What to Do During Overnight:

1. Arrive early afternoon (check in)
2. Walk campus for 1-2 hours (explore)
3. Attend sessions/panels (learn about programs)
4. Eat lunch/dinner in dining hall (assess food quality)
5. Attend evening activity (see student life)
6. Sleep in dorm (get feel for housing)

1. The One-On-One Student Conversation: When you get 1-on-1 time with a current student, ask them the hard questions. Away from admissions staff, students give honest answers. "Is this school worth the debt?" "Do people from [your background] feel welcome?" "What's the real attrition rate?" Honest feedback from students is more valuable than any official information.
2. The Off-Campus Town Walk: Many students judge school by campus only. But you'll spend weekends off-campus too. Walk into the town/city surrounding campus during visit. Is there stuff to do? Are restaurants/shops accessible? Can you see yourself living in this town? This often determines happiness outside the classroom.
3. The Overnight Dorm Experience: If you stay overnight, stay awake through evening and early morning if possible. See what students do in the dorms at night. Is it loud and party-focused? Or quiet study-focused? Does it match your preference? Early morning on campus (7-8 AM) shows you the real vibe before official activities begin.
