February decisions

What arrives this month

• Early Decision II results, typically mid-February. ED2 is binding in exactly the way ED1 is.
• Rolling admission decisions, arriving continuously — most state flagships outside the most selective tier
• Some priority and scholarship decisions, often separately from the admission decision

If an ED2 admission arrives

It is binding. Within the week:

1. Read the financial aid offer before doing anything else. An ED2 admit can be released from the commitment for genuine financial reasons, but only if you raise it immediately.
2. If the offer works, withdraw every other application. Do it properly, through each school's portal, so places free up for other students.
3. Tell your counselor so transcripts stop going out.

If decisions are not what you hoped

Check that the list still holds:

• At least two schools that are genuine financial and academic safeties
• Applications already submitted everywhere else, with nothing sitting incomplete

If a safety is missing, add one now. Many rolling-admission and later-deadline schools are still open in February and several are excellent.

Keep the portals open

Schools post missing documents and interview invitations in the applicant portal and do not always email. Check each one weekly through March. A missing mid-year report is a common and entirely avoidable reason for a file to stall.
