ASME High School Senior Scholarships
Offered by ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Foundation · Free to apply
The ASME Foundation offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors who will study mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. The main award, the ASME INSPIRE / Charles W.E. Clarke Scholarship, gives 25 students $2,000 each for their first year of college. Applicants must plan to enroll full time, no later than the fall after senior year, in an ABET-accredited or substantially equivalent mechanical engineering or engineering technology program, show involvement in STEM activities, and show family financial need. A smaller $5,000 award is limited to a specific Louisiana fellows program. The application asks for leadership and activities information, a transcript with first semester senior grades, and a recommendation from a teacher or mentor who can describe the student's STEM work. An ASME student membership is needed to log in to the application system. The senior deadline is March 15, results come by July 31, and funds go straight to the college by September 1. Awards do not renew.

How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
