Georgia Public Safety Memorial Grant
Offered by Georgia Student Finance Commission · Free to apply
The Georgia Public Safety Memorial Grant helps the children and spouses of Georgia public safety officers who were killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty pay for college. Covered officers include law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, highway emergency response operators and prison guards; the grant also covers families of public school employees killed or permanently disabled by an act of violence on the job. The award covers cost of attendance minus other aid, up to $18,000 a year and $72,000 over a lifetime, at public and private colleges and technical colleges in Georgia. The student must have been a Georgia resident for 12 months, meet citizenship rules and keep satisfactory progress. To apply, the student completes Part A of the application, the college aid office completes Part B, and the student uploads documentation of the qualifying event to GSFA. Funding is first come, first served, and students must reapply each year. Children have ten years from high school graduation to use it.

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
