Indiana Tuition and Fee Remission for Children and Spouses of Indiana National Guard Members
Offered by Indiana Commission for Higher Education · Free to apply
Indiana guarantees 100 percent of tuition and regularly assessed fees, for up to 124 semester credit hours, for the children and spouses of Indiana National Guard members who suffered a service-connected death while serving on state active duty or deployed with the Army or Air National Guard. The Commission pays it as a supplement after other state grants, up to the cost of an undergraduate credit hour at the state college the student attends. Children must be the biological or legally adopted child of the Guard member; adoption must have occurred before age 24, and adoption by a surviving spouse does not count. Spouses must have been married to the member at the time of death. The death must be certified as line-of-duty by the Military Department of Indiana. The student must qualify for resident tuition at an eligible Indiana college. To apply, the family files the FAFSA listing an eligible Indiana school and submits the Children and Spouse of Indiana National Guard application on ScholarTrack, where award letters are posted.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Indiana residents
- Fewer rivalsRequires a military or national-service connection
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
