Alabama Law Enforcement Officers' Family Scholarship
Offered by Alabama Commission on Higher Education · Free to apply
The Alabama Law Enforcement Officers' Family Scholarship pays up to $2,500 a semester toward tuition and mandatory fees for the families of long-serving Alabama law enforcement officers. Unlike most first responder benefits, it does not require a line-of-duty death or injury: the officer must have worked for a state, county or municipal law enforcement agency in Alabama for at least 15 years, or have left full-time employment no more than 10 years ago. Eligible students are the officer's natural or adopted children under 24, or a current or surviving spouse who has not remarried, and the student must have lived in Alabama for the past five years. Awards can be used for undergraduate study at an accredited public vocational school, technical school, community college or university in Alabama. Applications are by semester: the Spring 2027 application is open now with a February 15, 2027 deadline, and Fall 2026 applications are closed.

How Solyo estimates this: State programs that allocate by published formula are modelled on qualification and filing, not on competition, because there is no selection committee choosing between applicants. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
