Ohio College Adoption Grant
Offered by Ohio Department of Higher Education · Free to apply
The Ohio College Adoption Grant is a one-time $2,500 award for Ohio residents who were adopted and enroll at a qualifying Ohio college. The adoption must have been finalized on or after January 1, 2023, by someone other than a stepparent, under Ohio adoption law; adoptions arranged by an attorney, a public children services agency or a private agency, interstate adoptions and foreign adoptions all count. The grant can be used at any Ohio public community or technical college, public university or regional campus, or independent nonprofit college. It is paid to the college and applied to the full cost of attendance, and if a student's costs are already covered, the remainder rolls to the next year. To apply, the student emails the state for the application, signs it electronically, attaches the adoption order and files the FAFSA. The 2026-27 window closed September 1, 2026, or earlier if funds ran out.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to Ohio residents
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
