North Dakota Native American Scholarship
Offered by North Dakota University System · Free to apply
The North Dakota Native American Scholarship provides up to $2,000 a year to North Dakota residents who are enrolled members of a federally recognized Indian tribe and attend a North Dakota college, university or accredited career school full time. Awards are based on unmet need or merit. Students with a cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 3.499 must show unmet financial need on the FAFSA, which is required every year, while students with a 3.5 or higher can qualify on merit alone. It can be used for clock-hour, certificate, associate, bachelor's, graduate and professional programs at accredited North Dakota institutions with a physical presence in the state, including tribal colleges and state career and technical programs. Students apply annually through the University System's online ND SAMS portal, and applications received on or before July 15 get priority consideration for the coming academic year. Part-time students may receive prorated amounts. Total state aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance.

What drives the odds here
Odds on a scholarship are mostly a question of how many students can enter. Each rule below changes the size of that field.
- Fewer rivalsOpen only to North Dakota residents
- Fewer rivalsRestricted by racial or ethnic background
- Fewer rivalsOpen to a single grade level only
- Fewer rivalsRequires at least a 2 GPA
How Solyo estimates this: We model the applicant field from how narrow the eligibility rules are, then divide the awards available by that field. Requirements such as essays and recommendation letters improve a serious applicant’s odds, because most browsers never complete them. These are estimates derived from each award's published structure, not reported acceptance rates, which almost no scholarship provider discloses. Treat them as a way to rank where the hours go, not as a guarantee.
